Join us in a celebration of Black History Month at a free event day with something for everyone.
A free drop-in event with a range of activities happening throught the day:
Black Presence Revisited - take part in free poetry workshops led by local poet ‘The Orator’ in response to new acquisitions depicting black people in the museum collections. Your poems may be published on the Leicester Museums website. Book in for workshops on the day at 12:00 and 2:30pm. Workshops delivered by Opal22 Arts and Edutainment
Pop-up exhibition of African and Caribbean textiles and basketry with the opportunity to explore and handle the collections, and to take part in a collaborative weaving activity
Performance by Leicester’s Zimbabwe Choir at 2:00pm
Free craft activity - block print a tote bag to take away with African Adinkra designs and other geometric and natural patterns
On the day and throughout Black History Month, discover a range of artworks around the museum which depict black people, and respond in words or poems for the chance to see your poem published on the Leicester Museums & Galleries website.
