Description

An interactive exhibition exploring how old technology can help us understand new technology

Digital Creativity Live at the Museum

This interactive exhibition is an exploration of how old technology can help us understand new technology. It is based on a research project led by Dr. Josie Barnard of De Montfort University.

All technology was new once, even a pencil – and, we all have experience of learning technology that was new to us once. This exhibition explores how looking back at old technology can help us tackle new technology. For the research project that the exhibition is based on, Digital Inclusion and Creative Writing academic Dr. Josie Barnard collaborated with Computer Scientist Professor Christine Goutrié of Weißensee Art Academy Berlin to devise fun digital upskilling activities using Leicester Museums and Galleries (LM&G) vintage typewriters and telephones.

The project team, including the Leicester-based umbrella charity Reaching People, Research Assistant Dr. Charlene Lee and LM&G, then tested the activities – and versions of the activities are part of this interactive exhibition.

What’s the link between vintage typewriters and algorithms, and vintage telephones and binary code? Come along to the exhibition and see!

This interactive exhibition is FREE, no booking required!
