Description
An exhibition curated by students from Beaumont Leys School

Beaumont Leys School is a secondary school in the north-west of the city. With over a thousand students, we are a diverse and energised school. At the core of our work is the belief that our students can be ambitious and successful, make the world a better place and enjoy their school years whilst developing their positive future self.
Last summer, my Year 9 English class were exploring a topic which centred on Leicester. They shared their views about living in this city. Reading their work, I was struck by how powerful their opinions were. I wanted to DO something with their wonderful thoughts. I wanted people to read their ideas instead of them being enclosed in an exercise book.
It’s now a year later. That seed of an idea has developed into this exhibition, after a friend told me about the People’s Space. Those talented students have gone further than merely articulating their opinions; they’ve now curated an exhibition!
Our Beaumont Leys School Student Curators have designed The Lives We Lead: Who We Were, Who We Are as a glimpse into how they live their lives, and what matters to them. Instead of a homogenous representation of teenagers, our students have considered their unique identities and experiences. In doing so, they thoughtfully share aspects of their life at home, at school and in the wider community.
