Description

Honouring the contributions of South Asian servicemen and women in the First and Second World Wars.

Forgotten Army Project Touring Exhibition

Mahtab Hussain’s collaboration with the Royal British Legion and British Future honours the forgotten soldiers of the British Indian Army in WWII, bringing their stories to life through art and public engagement.

'The Forgotten Army' is a five-figure bronze sculpture honouring both male and female soldiers of multiple faiths from across pre-partition Indian including Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, Christan and Gurkha communities who served in the First and Second World Wars

Through detailed research and consultation, the sculpture restores visibility to those whose service and sacrifice have too often been marginalised within national memory. Rather than presenting a singular narrative, the work acknowledges shared histories of duty, courage and belonging across diverse communities.
