This object has been chosen to represent Penny Walker, a much-loved colleague who worked at the museum and sadly passed away in May 2021.

She dedicated her life to making a difference to people in need. This included those suffering mental distress whom she helped as an occupational therapy support worker, then asylum seekers whom she helped by opening up a night shelter at the Coventry Peace House. The CPH was a space for marginalised groups in the community to learn from each other in the same way that Suffrage campaigners came from all walks of life and worked in solidarity towards a common cause.

The Object of the Month can be seen in person throughout February at Leicester Museum & Art Gallery.
