December 2023 - Jewry Wall Project Update

An update on the major refurbishment of Jewry Wall Museum, opening in Autumn 2024.

Published: 12 December 2023

The internal fit out and development of audio visual content is underway at Jewry Wall Museum.

Jeakins Weir Ltd are starting to fit out the Grade II listed building which will house a stunning new exhibition, café and shop plus meeting and learning rooms. The exhibition will depict life in Roman Leicester using real Roman objects, state-of-the-art audio visuals, games and tactile exhibits.

The main exhibition space is now stripped back to its original design displaying the full barrel-vaulted ceiling which echoes the doorways of the original Roman Baths a few metres away. The Museum building was built in 1962 and designed by architect Trevor Dannatt OBE.

The exhibition will feature 14 audio visual exhibits and games beginning with an immersive experience introducing visitors to Roman Leicester. Heritage Interactive are creating all the audio visual content with advice from the University of Leicester’s archaeologists and Roman experts.
